Privacy Policy
Last updated: October 4, 2026
This Privacy Policy explains how Looplabs ("we", "us") collects, uses, shares and protects your information when you use Dwi, our iPhone app for learning Moroccan Darija, and our website at thelooplabs.app. If you have questions, email support@thelooplabs.app.
The short version
- Dwi creates a guest account for you when you first open it. Signing in is optional.
- Your voice recordings are processed on our servers and then discarded. They are never kept on our servers.
- With your permission, your conversations are handled by Claude, an AI model by Anthropic, running on Amazon Bedrock in the EU.
- We don't sell your information, and there are no ads, no analytics and no tracking.
- You can export your data or delete your account at any time from inside the app.
Information we collect
- Account information: When you first open Dwi, it creates a guest account identified by a random ID, so you can start without signing in. Signing in is optional, with Sign in with Apple or a one-time code sent to your email from support@thelooplabs.app. If you sign in, we store your email address and, if Apple shares it, your name. If you use Apple's "Hide My Email", we receive a private relay address instead of your real one.
- Voice recordings: When you tap to speak and have allowed Dwi to share your voice with the AI tutor, your recording is sent to our servers to be transcribed, scored and answered, and then it is discarded. Recordings are never stored on our servers. If you turn on "Save recordings", your recordings are kept on your iPhone only.
- Conversation content: The text of your conversations with Dwi's AI characters, including transcripts of what you said, the characters' replies, and the corrections and pronunciation scores you receive. Transcripts sync to your account, including a guest account.
- Learning progress: Lessons completed, cities unlocked, streaks, quest and league progress, scores, and your app settings, synced to your account, including a guest account. We also keep daily counters to apply usage limits.
- Purchase information: If you subscribe or make a purchase, we receive the status of your purchase (for example, which plan is active and when it renews) from Apple only. We don't use any third-party subscription service. Payments are handled entirely by Apple. We never receive your card number or other payment details.
- Technical information: When the app connects to our servers, we receive basic technical information needed to run the service, such as your IP address, device model, iOS version and app version.
- Messages you send us: If you email us or use the contact form on our website, we receive your name, email address and whatever you write.
Dwi only uses your microphone when you tap to speak. You can turn off microphone access at any time in your iPhone's Settings, under Dwi; speaking features won't work while it is off.
How we use your information
- To create your guest account, let you sign in if you choose to, and sync your progress across devices.
- To run Dwi's speaking features: turning your speech into text, generating the AI characters' replies, scoring your pronunciation and suggesting better ways to say things.
- To keep your conversation history, streaks and progress available to you.
- To check your subscription status and unlock the features you have paid for.
- To keep Dwi secure, apply daily usage limits and fix problems.
- To answer your questions and send you important messages about your account or the service. We won't send you marketing emails unless you ask to receive them.
How AI is used in Dwi
Dwi's conversations and feedback are powered by Claude, an AI model made by Anthropic, which we use through Amazon Bedrock on Amazon Web Services (AWS) in EU regions. When you talk with a character, the text of your conversation (including the transcript of what you said) is sent to Claude on Amazon Bedrock to generate replies, corrections and tips. Amazon Bedrock does not share this content with Anthropic and does not use it to train models. We do not send your name or email address to Claude as part of your conversations.
Before your first conversation, Dwi asks for your permission to share your voice with the AI tutor. You can withdraw it at any time by turning off "Share my voice with the AI tutor" in Me › Settings › Privacy & data. Without your permission, Dwi scores your pronunciation on your iPhone instead.
AI replies are generated automatically and can sometimes be inaccurate. Please don't share sensitive personal information, such as health, financial or government ID details, in your conversations.
Who we share information with
We don't sell your personal information, and we don't share it with advertisers or data brokers. We share it only with:
- Amazon Web Services (AWS), in Ireland, which hosts our servers, stores your account and synced progress, and runs Claude through Amazon Bedrock, as described above.
- Apple, which processes purchases, verifies your subscription and restores purchases.
- Authorities or others when required by law, or when needed to protect the rights, safety or property of our users, the public or Looplabs.
- A buyer or successor, if Looplabs is involved in a merger, acquisition or sale of assets. We would let you know before your information becomes subject to a different privacy policy.
These service providers may only use your information to provide their services to us.
How long we keep your information
We keep your account information and synced progress, including conversation transcripts, until you delete your account, so you can keep learning where you left off. Some data is kept for a short time only:
- Voice recordings are not kept on our servers. They are discarded once they have been transcribed, scored and answered.
- Sign-in codes sent by email expire after 10 minutes.
- Daily usage counters are deleted after 3 days.
When you delete your account in Dwi, your account and synced data are permanently removed from our systems. Copies may remain for a limited time in routine backups kept by our hosting providers until those backups are overwritten. We may keep limited records longer when the law requires it, for example purchase records.
Your choices and rights
- Export my data: In Me › Settings › Privacy & data, you can export a copy of your data. You can also email us to ask for access or a correction.
- Share my voice with the AI tutor: Turn this off in Me › Settings › Privacy & data to withdraw your permission. Your voice then stays on your iPhone, and pronunciation is scored there.
- Save recordings and Delete my recordings: Choose whether recordings are saved on your iPhone, and delete saved recordings at any time, in Me › Settings › Privacy & data.
- Delete account: In Me › Settings › Privacy & data, you can delete your account. This permanently deletes your account together with all of your data. If you can't access the app, email support@thelooplabs.app from the address linked to your account and we'll do it for you.
- Microphone: You can turn off microphone access at any time in your iPhone's Settings.
- Sign in with Apple: If you signed up with Apple, you can stop using Sign in with Apple for Dwi in your Apple ID settings. This doesn't delete your Dwi data; use Delete account in the app for that.
Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under local privacy laws. We will respond to your request as soon as we can, and within the time required by law.
Security
We protect your information with encryption in transit, access controls and other reasonable safeguards. No system is completely secure, but we work to keep your data safe and will let you know if a breach affects you, as required by law.
Where your information is processed
Dwi's servers and AI processing run on AWS in the European Union: your account and synced progress are stored in AWS's Ireland region, and Claude runs on Amazon Bedrock in EU regions. Apple processes purchases under its own privacy policy.
Children
Dwi is not directed to children under the age of 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child under 13 has given us personal information, please contact us at support@thelooplabs.app and we will delete it.
Our website
Our website, thelooplabs.app, does not use cookies, analytics or ads. It is hosted on GitHub Pages, which may log technical information such as your IP address when you visit, under GitHub's privacy statement. If you use the contact form, your message is sent through your own email app or our form provider only so we can reply to you.
Changes to this policy
We may update this Privacy Policy as Dwi grows. When we do, we will change the "Last updated" date at the top of this page, and for important changes we will let you know in the app or by email.
